TERRiTORY DESCRiPTiON.
the Scarlet Forest is surrounded on three sides by mountains. while they are passable, they are still difficult and highly unlikely for someone to wander aimlessly over. to the North, however, lies the border with Deadman's Ridge. this border is the most likely place for newcomers to appear, and the most-used route between the forest and the city.
BOLT-HOLE.
originally considered as a pack den, this mound of earth halfway between the heart of the forest and the northern border can be used a bolt-hole. the soil is tough, full of rocks and roots, and difficult to dig through, but already has enough room for a wolf to tuck itself away from the elements or danger. it is free for any of the pack to use. also, not too far from the bolt-hole is a large dead tree full of rotting wood and insects. this was the reason the mound was not used as a den, since two different ant colonies and a plethora of venomous spiders live inside.
PACK DEN.
near the heart of the forest lies a wall of thick thorny undergrowth. push through it and you will find a small clearing--just a tiny grassy area, really--and close to the treeline, two boulders. boulders might be an overstatement, as they are scarcely five feet tall, but they definitely are not just rocks. the one on the left sits as it is, very round and squat. the one on the right is oval in shape and lay over, resting upon the other just so that a hole is created between them. on either side of the den the earth rises in a soft hill, culminating behind the structure so that nothing but dirt is behind it. the work of the wolves has created a long tunnel that ends in a chamber just large enough for a wolf and pups. the pack shelters inside the tunnel when weather doesn't permit them sleep outside, and is open to use. a position atop the boulders affords a good view of the surrounding forest.
